11/26/2008 - Newcastle, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Newcastle striker Mark Viduka is close to a first-team return after finally recovering from a long-term Achilles injury.
The 33-year-old former Celtic, Leeds United and Middlesbrough frontman has not featured for the Magpies since the end of last season.
However, interim St James' Park boss Joe Kinnear has revealed that Viduka could even make the bench for the derby clash against Boro at the weekend.
He told reporters: "He's not far off, I can tell you. Obviously he hasn't had games, but you might find that he's on the bench on Saturday.
"What we decided to do with Mark was to ask him to try and come back into training.
"We didn't want to hurry him up, because we don't want to risk him breaking down again, but if he felt like he could come back into the sessions then we were happy for him to do that."
