07/24/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Toronto right-hander Roy Halladay can continue a remarkable run of success against Baltimore today when the Blue Jays visit the Orioles for the finale-and-a-half of a four-game series at Camden Yards.
Wednesday's contest was suspended due to heavy rain in the top of the sixth inning with the Blue Jays ahead, 2-1.
The teams will resume play at 12:05 before playing the final game.
Marco Scutaro and Lyle Overbay each knocked in a run for Toronto, while starter A.J. Burnett gave up one run on six hits and struck out seven in five innings of work.
Aubrey Huff tripled and scored the lone run for Baltimore. Jeremy Guthrie, who is unbeaten in his last six outings (3-0), allowed two runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings.
In the full game, Halladay, a 31-year-old right-hander, hopes to improve on a 17-4 record in 27 lifetime games - 23 starts - against the Orioles, including a 5-4 triumph on June 8 in Toronto.
In that game, Halladay allowed eight hits and four runs in 7 2/3 innings, walking none and striking out seven.
Overall against the Orioles, the former first-round draft choice (17th overall, 1995) has allowed 155 hits and 53 earned runs in 163 innings.
Halladay is 3-2 in his last seven starts, most recently dropping a 6-4 verdict at Tampa Bay on July 19.
For Baltimore, right-hander Daniel Cabrera got a no-decision in a July 8 start at Toronto after allowing six hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings.
The Blue Jays won the game, 7-6.
Cabrera is just 4-7 in 15 lifetime starts against Toronto, posting a 4.48 earned run average in 88 1/3 innings.
He's won just once in his last 10 outings since a 5-1 start, dropping four decisions while watching his ERA rise from 3.60 to 4.57.
Toronto is 6-4 against the Orioles so far this season and split a two-game series with Baltimore at Camden Yards from April 14-15.

In terms of sports wagering, the NFL is "the most popular game in town." The explanation behind that is easy.
It is called the "pointspread."
Many years ago, NFL games, as well as the more popular college games, used straight odds as a vehicle for betting. For example, if the Bears were playing the Giants, and it shaped up as a competitive contest, the Bears might be, say, a 7/5 favorite. If they were playing an also-ran, it might be 10/1. Well, there is a point where a line becomes prohibitive, as far as betting the favorite. And who would waste money betting an underdog that has virtually no chance? Such a setup did not contribute to promoting betting action.
But in modern sports betting, a "pointspread" is used.
A NFL pointspreads are exactly that, a pre-established point difference between the two sides that will, for all intents and purposes, create a handicap that evens things out, and in doing so, produces comparable wagering activity on both sides of that proposition. So in lieu of a odds figure in which to bet the team to win outright, the Bears might be a three-point favorite over the New York Giants, and a 17-point favorite over the also-ran. Now that the team that is the underdog can "get" points, there can be equal action on both sides.
In sportsbooks, this is usually done with efficiency by charging the losing bettors 10% extra - in effect, bettors are laying 11/10 on those games. So they are actually betting $110 to win $100. If they lose, they pay the "vig." If they win, they simply collect.
The establishment of the pointspread as the corner stone around which team sports like football can be wagered upon was truly what brought gridiron betting into the stratosphere.
