Brewers ink first-round pick Lawrie

08/05/2008 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Milwaukee Brewers signed their 2008 first-round draft pick, third baseman/catcher Brett Lawrie, on Tuesday.

A recent graduate of Brookswood Secondary School in Langley, B.C., the 18- year-old Lawrie was the 16th overall selection in the 2008 daft. He became the highest drafted Canadian positional player in the history of the draft and was just the sixth Canadian ever selected in the first round.

Lawrie departed for China Tuesday where he will play baseball for Team Canada in the upcoming Summer Olympic Games.
